St John of God University Hospital has launched The Stigma Shift, a new podcast exploring mental health through open, informed and compassionate conversation.
Launched as part of the hospital’s World Mental Health Day initiative, the series reflects the hospital’s ongoing commitment to education, stigma reduction and public engagement. It brings together members of the hospital’s multidisciplinary teams, including clinicians, therapists, researchers and health promotion specialists, to share insight and expertise on key aspects of mental wellbeing.
Each episode aims to deepen understanding of mental health, challenge misconceptions and highlight how evidence-based knowledge can support better outcomes for individuals and communities alike. The series also reflects the hospital’s broader mission to share knowledge beyond its walls and contribute to national conversations on mental health and recovery.
The first two episodes feature Dr Amy Watchorn, Consultant Psychiatrist, on Digital Overload and Mental Wellbeing, and Denise McGiney, Health Promotion Nurse Specialist, on Stress vs Burnout. Future episodes will explore topics including anxiety, grief and compassion, neuroplasticity, and addiction and recovery in high- performing individuals.
By giving voice to a range of experiences and areas of expertise, The Stigma Shift reinforces St John of God University Hospital’s commitment to promoting understanding and reducing stigma through open dialogue, research and education.
The Stigma Shift is available to listen to on Spotify, Apple Podcasts and through the St John of God University Hospital website.
