Election of Five General Councillors of the Hospitaller Order of Saint John of God

Czestochowa, November 4, 2024 – Following the election of their Superior General on November 1, the 67 capitulars of the General Chapter of the Hospitaller Order of Saint John of God elected five General Councillors on November 4, 2024. They are called “to collaborate with the Superior General in the governance of the Order and thus express the fraternity of our entire institute” (Constitutions, n. 88). 

The five General Councillors are:

  • 1st Councillor, Bro. Joaquim ERRA MAS
  • 2nd Councillor, Bro. Saji MULLANKUZHY, Provincial of Austria
  • 3rd Councillor, Bro. Etienne SENE, current director of Dalal Xel Hospital (Senegal)
  • 4th Councillor, Bro. David LYNCH, Provincial of the Good Shepherd (North America)
  • 5th Councillor, Bro. John JUNG, Provincial of Korea.

A General Chapter, according to the Constitutions of the Hospitaller Order of Saint John of God, may elect “at least four General Councillors.” The General Statutes state that it is the responsibility of the newly elected Superior General to submit “to the approval of the General Chapter the number and names of the General Councillors to be elected” (n.125).
